Overview

The Humber Chair Show series is a set of promotional posters for a physical exhibition at the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation. These posters feature a custom-designed "Music Chair" created from scratch, which integrates a high-fidelity audio system including subwoofers, pre-amps into a functional piece of furniture. The visual campaign uses three distinct iterations to explore the intersection of industrial design, sonic innovation, and material culture.

The Texture Study

Utilizes a close-up, high-grain purple composition with halftone typography. A growing visual language explores the tactile and sonic emergence of sound waves from the hardware.

The Design Challenge

The primary challenge was Visualizing the Invisible. Because the most innovative part of the chair is internal, the posters needed to use graphic metaphors to tell the audience that this is more than just a standard seat.

The Flow Motion

Features a triadic repetition of the chair isolated against an equal-tone, equal-like background. This layout emphasizes the "Symphony of Integration" between form and function.

The Solution:

  • Wave Graphics: By integrating particle-based sine waves and light leaks, I provided a visual cue for the sound experience.
  • Industrial Branding: I incorporated the Humber Logo as a monolithic object header block, grounding the experimental art in a real-world collegiate exhibition context.

The High-Contrast Hero

A bold red and black "silhouette" approach. The chair is centered as a monolithic object, with light wave graphics integrated as the foreground to signify low-frequency vibration.

Reflections

This series represents a total design cycle: from sourcing electronic components and hardware failures to final marketing and exhibition design. It showcases an ability to synthesize complex information into cohesive visual language and aesthetics. The work aims to translate that products "vibe" into a professional-grade promotional campaign for a public.
